Torrential Rain Shuts Down Dohar Exams, Strands Commuters

Torrential rain coupled with strong winds has severely disrupted public life in Dhaka’s Dohar Upazila today (July 12, 2026). The continuous downpour, which began early Sunday morning, has submerged major roads and educational institutions, forcing authorities to postpone all ongoing school and madrasa examinations due to safety concerns.

An inadequate drainage system worsened the crisis, leaving key thoroughfares and school campuses under knee-deep water within a few hours. The severe waterlogging stranded thousands of office-goers and ordinary citizens, bringing public transport to a near standstill. Reports also indicate that rainwater has entered homes and businesses in low-lying areas.

Frustrated residents blamed the poor drainage infrastructure for the recurring issue. Meanwhile, the Upazila Administration stated that they are actively monitoring the situation. Officials assured that a revised exam schedule will be announced as soon as the weather normalizes and the water recedes.
