Depression intensifies at Bay turns into cyclonic storm ‘Niver’

The deep depression in the Southwest Bay and adjoining area intensified and turned into a cyclonic storm ‘Niver’ in the same area. It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction, which can take terrible forms. 

The information was given on the website of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Tuesday afternoon.

The met office said that although it hit the southern coast of India, it could cause heavy rains in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. Besides, the weather across the country may remain dry with partly cloudy skies.

Boats and trawlers stationed at Chattogram, Mongla, Payra Sea Port and Cox’s Bazar have been asked to move carefully, the BMD office said in a press release.

The deep depression was located at 1,665-km southwest from Chattogram seaport, 1,610-km southwest from Cox’s Bazar, 1,555-km southwest from Mongla and 1,550-km southwest from Payra seaport at 6:00 am today.

Meanwhile, the cyclone could hit the coasts of the southern Indian states of Andhra and Tamil Nadu, the country’s meteorological office said.
